PUBLIC SQUARE, CLEVELAND

Cleveland’s Public Square is a public park located in the heart of downtown Cleveland and run by the Group Plan Commission. The Public Square was designed with people in mind, with the newly renovated space comprising of a water fountain, lawns, natural amphitheater amongst other features.

Being a focal point of the city and hosting a wide range of events and thousands of visitors annually, designers James Corner Field Operations worked closely with the City of Cleveland and partners to design a beautiful and user-friendly public space.

PRODUCT SELECTION

With public safety and low long-term maintenance in mind, the design team turned to ROMEX® when it came to securing the granite cobbles in place. The space is mostly for pedestrian use with occasional vehicle use and the ROMEX® – D1 with 7.5 ton axel load rating was an ideal solution for this project. With public safety and low long-term maintenance in mind, the design team turned to ROMEX® when it came to securing the granite cobbles in place. PROJECT NEEDS
  1. Safe walking surface for thousands of users
  2. De-icing salt resistant
  3. No loose material causing hazards or maintenance issues
  4. Long term durability & return on investment
  5. Ability to cover large areas efficiently to meet project timeline
PROJECT SOLUTION

The design team for the Cleveland Public square were in no doubt that Romex’s market leading frost resistant grout was the way to secure the new granite cobbles for the long term, whilst withstanding regular public loading and adverse weather and meeting the construction project timeline. This would keep future maintenance costs and interruption to a bare minimum, ensuring the safe passage of users through the space and provide a return on their investment for years to come. Almost 5 years after install, the park remains in perfect condition like the day its was done and has left a legacy which this design team and the City of Cleveland can be proud of.
